Envy is the enemy to gratefulness and contentment. You see most of us deal with envy almost on a daily basis and social media doesn’t help with this. Go back 30 years and people didn’t have a such thing as Facebook or Instagram. The only way back then you would find out if someone went on a fancy vacation or bought a fancy purse was through running into them at the grocery store or what not. Now we have everyone’s major life moments at our fingertips daily. Which makes it easy for envy to sneak in and before you even realize it you are fuming to your spouse about Susies fancy vacation that she just went on and how does she get to go on a fancy vacation and not me. How can she afford that $1,000 dollar purse and not me. It isn’t fair. You see how envy will take your focus off what God has already provided for you and it will put it on what you don’t have. How can you be grateful to God when you are envying others.
So how do we kill envy? We kill envy by these three things. I believe that these three things will suck envy out of your life.
Contentment (focusing on what God has already given you) purposely choose to be happy with what God has already given you. We have to choose on a daily basis to be happy with what we already have.
Gratefulness when we are grateful to God for what he has given us then envy will have a hard time sticking around. You can’t be envious and be grateful at the same time. So we have to choose to give thanks to God everyday for things he has given us
We have to make a conscious decision to love your brother and sisters in Christ daily. What do you do when someone you love gets a new car or a new item or goes on fancy vacation, you are happy for them because they are someone you love and care about. You see we have been given a commandment to love one another. So when you truely love someone you won’t be envious towards them you will be happy for them. So we need to work on loving our brother and sisters in Christ and being happy for them instead of being jealous.
Envy and jealousy is something I deal with everyday. Those thoughts may come but we don’t have to entertain them. We can choose to love each other. So when those thoughts of Envy come choose to love instead!
